Semi-Custom DO-160 Wide Frequency Range Aircraft Power Supply

This power supply product was designed for a commercial aircraft application where the customer’s product was in need of operating from a 115VAC power source with the wide frequency range of 360Hz to 800Hz. This supply was also required to be compliant with the EMC input under Boeing’s RTCA/DO160 and Airbus’s ABD0100.1.8 qualification testing requirements.

In order to meet these parameters, engineering utilized a forward converter design incorporating a high efficiency, ac to dc, power factor corrected, rectifier module for the input section and a high efficiency DC to DC converter module for the DC output section. Integral to this design is a input filtering selection designed to meet EMI, voltage spikes, and susceptibility requirements under DO-160.

One of the unique features of this semi-custom DO-160 wide frequency range aircraft power supply is the operating baseplate temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. The advantage of this approach is the cooling is focused on the baseplate rather than the ambient operating temperature or the internal temperature rise when determining cooling requirements.
