Custom 2000 Watt, MIL-STD-901, Power Supply for US Navy Shipboard Environments

This power supply was designed for a customer working on the next generation of satcom terminals for the US Navy. Since this program was an IRAD funded project, the customer was looking for a solution to satisfy their budget constraints regarding minimizing NRE charges. In addition to that, they wanted unit delivery within 12 weeks ARO.

The general power supply requirements were for the unit to operate from a 115Vac, single phase, 60HZ input and needed dual isolated outputs (28Bdc & 48Vdc) with a combined output power of 2000 watts. It needed to be mounted to a baseplate which would also provide the conduction cooling. The I/O connectors had to be MIL-Circular types and the interior needed to be conformal coated.

As with all of our military-grade power supplies, we design them to meet all relevant military standards and specs. The most common military power supply specs are MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-1275. However, this application required the power supply to meet MIL-STD-901, the most extreme shock standard required by any of the armed services.
